This gamified, e-learning course was designed for learners to explain the simple steps for writing a professional email.
Tools Used: Articulate Storyline, Freepik, Microsoft Whiteboard
Process: A course was requested to teach learners how to write a professional email. The stakeholders wanted the content presented in an engaging, unexpected way. The target audience for this training was new hires. After meeting with stakeholders, I developed performance-based learning objectives to guide the design.
Knowing they were looking for something different, I held several brainstorming sessions and used Microsoft Whiteboard to capture ideas. We ultimately decided on a retro video game theme as a creative way to keep learners engaged while guiding them through the steps of writing a professional email.
I programmed the course in Articulate Storyline and sourced images and music from Freepik. To personalize the experience, I incorporated a name variable and provided learners with three character options. Motion path animations were used throughout to simulate the feel of an actual video game. The full course included three levels; however, the preview presented here showcases the first level.
Both stakeholders and learners responded enthusiastically to the concept and design, and they were excited to launch the course to new hires.
